  • Tammy
    Optician | Employed since 1983

Tammy has been an integral part of Chan Family Optometry since 1983, offering her dedicated service and warm smile to everyone who walks through our doors. Born in Southern California, Tammy moved to Nevada County in 1978, drawn by her father's dream of owning more land and his love for horses. It's no surprise that Tammy inherited this love for the outdoors and animals, particularly cats and horses. She currently shares her life with her beloved cat, Jasmine, and a horse named Dunny, often spending her free time riding through the beautiful landscapes that surround her home.......

When she's not enjoying the great outdoors, Tammy is an avid reader, with a particular fondness for suspense and detective novels. She finds joy in discovering new reads, whether through thrifting or visiting her favorite local bookstore, Downtown Books in Grass Valley.

Tammy's journey with us began over four decades ago when she decided to take a leap of faith and apply for a position at our then Bank Street location, despite having no prior experience in optometry. Her previous job was working at a cutting horse breeding ranch handling the yearlings – a far cry from the world of eye care! Tammy credits her mother's wise words, 'you can’t clean stalls for a living, go get a real job,' as the nudge that led her to us. What started as a job soon blossomed into a fulfilling career. Tammy especially treasures the relationships she's built over the years and takes great pride in training and mentoring new team members.

Looking ahead, Tammy is excited to spend more time doing what she loves most – being outdoors, spending time with her animals, and embracing new challenges. She is enthusiastic about the evolution of Chan Family Optometry, particularly the introduction of new technologies and treatments that have the potential to significantly improve our patients' lives.

  • Becky
Optometric Technician / Employed since 2022

When she's not helping her patients see better, you will find her enjoying time with her family, rescuing animals, or working on jigsaw puzzles!......

Born in Auburn, California, and raised in Weimar, Becky is a proud alumnus of Colfax High School. Shortly after graduating, she began her journey in the optometry field, initially hired for office assistance in Auburn. Over the years, Becky trained and flourished in multiple roles, from pre-test procedures to becoming an adept optician and technician, as well as mastering billing and reception duties. Her ability to learn and adapt has seen her do everything in the office, a versatility she deeply values.

After 21 years at her first job, Becky sought a new challenge and found her place with us at Chan Family Optometry, drawn by an advertisement for a technician position. Coming from a family dedicated to public service, with her mother being a nurse and her father a volunteer firefighter, Becky's passion for healthcare seemed almost destined. Her upbringing instilled in her the joy of helping others, a trait that shines brightly in her daily work.

At our office, Becky is known for her ability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently, relishing the challenges and variety each day brings. She has witnessed firsthand the evolution of optometry, particularly how the internet and technology have transformed patient care and billing processes. The advancements in lens technology and their significant impact on improving patients' lives continue to amaze her.

Outside the office, Becky is equally busy and devoted. She's often found chauffeuring her daughter Gemma to dance classes, a family activity that's currently a big part of their lives. Alongside this, she enjoys quality time with her husband, Steve, their daughter, and their beloved twenty pounds cat, Mr. Kitty, affectionately nicknamed Bubba.

Looking to the future, Becky is excited about continuing her career in optometry. She has a particular interest in billing—a niche she's grown to love—and looks forward to further contributing to the wellbeing of our patients. 'I can’t wait to continue doing this,' Becky says, reflecting her enthusiasm for her work and the people she helps daily.
