Dr. Tina Khieu, OD, was born and raised in San Diego, California. She received her Bachelor of Science in General Biology with a minor degree in Japanese at San Diego State University. After college, she discovered her passion for optometry and the pediatric population while volunteering at a vision therapy office to help children with special needs.
Dr. Khieu went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She completed her externships at VA Portland Health Care System, a community health center in Boston, an OD/MD practice and a vision therapy private practice in Massachusetts. During her education, she was one of three students in her class to be accepted into the Pediatric Concentration Program. This allowed her to have extensive pediatric experience in various settings which included multiple community health centers, Boston Medical Center and Perkins School for the Blind. She graduated in the year 2020 and was selected by faculty to receive the Ira Schwartz Behavioral Vision Award for pediatric care.
Dr. Khieu then completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Primary Care at VA Boston Healthcare System Jamaica Plain, treating patients with glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, uveitis, diabetic retinopathy and ocular manifestation from systemic diseases. She is proud to be able to care for patients of all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics!
With the rapid growth of near-sightedness in young children, Dr. Khieu is currently interested in Myopia Control to help slow down this progression. This can be done by various available therapies which include specialty contact lenses, eye drops and multifocal eyeglasses. In addition, she continues to have a strong interest in providing care for children with special needs.
In her spare time, Dr. Khieu enjoys powerlifting, playing piano, film photography, and/or eating delicious foods of all kind!
